Meet the staff

  • Mrs Jenny Wheeldon

    Principal Designate

I am Jenny Wheeldon, the Principal Designate of Poplar Farm School, and I am very much looking forward to welcoming your child into this wonderful, new, local primary school.
I absolutely believe in educating the whole child. Of course you want your child to read and write and love numbers, understand what a healthy lifestyle is, but I want children to be confident, inquisitive individuals with a zest for learning. I want them to be explorers and adventurers who understand that failure is an opportunity to learn. I want the children to foster kindness and tolerance towards everyone, more than anything I want children to be happy whilst they are at Poplar Farm.
I have been in education for over 35 years. I worked for over 14 years in a Lincolnshire Primary School achieving two Outstanding OFSTEDs. More recently, I have worked as an Executive Headteacher in another Outstanding Academy. I have a proven track record, and the ability to sustain this over time has given me a greater understanding of the importance of an education system that has something for everyone.
I hope our website provides you with all the information you need, if not, please do get in touch.

  • Mrs Erica McGinley

    Head of School (Infants)

I will be Head of School (Infants) at Poplar Farm School in September 2018.
I am looking forward to building a school which offers an exciting and varied curriculum and which ensures that all pupils reach their potential.
I have taught both Foundation Stage and Year One for the last 8 years at an Outstanding Infant school in Nottinghamshire, where I was also Deputy Head and Foundation Stage Lead. I have a passion for Early Years education and I have worked with schools to develop EYFS teaching as an Early Years SLE, and as an EYFS Moderator for Nottinghamshire County Council.
I am also a Maths SLE and Mastery Maths Teacher for the East Midlands East Maths Hub. In this role I have led Maths projects and school improvement with a maths focus in schools across the East Midlands.
I am married with two children, and a dog. In my spare time I enjoy reading, painting and restoring furniture!

  • Miss Robyn Wilding

    Teacher

I will be one of the Early Years Foundation Stage Teachers at Poplar Farm School. I am really looking forward to working at the school and helping to create the foundations of a new community.
I love Early Years and I have spent many years working in both nurseries and primary schools. My degree in Education Studies and Early Years led me to pursue a career in teaching, in which I gained both Early Years Teacher Status and Qualified Teacher Status.
I really enjoy cooking, reading and walking my dog. In my spare time I also like to travel and go on new adventures!

  • Ms Louise Lyons

    Teacher

I am Louise Lyons, one of the EYFS Teachers at Poplar Farm School. I am excited to be part of this wonderful new school and look forward to being a part of your child’s learning journey.
I love to create lessons which enable children to learn through play and I delight in seeing children engage in what I and my team offer. One of my key areas of expertise is in developing communication and language skills in young children, especially those with special educational needs. In addition, my degree in Zoology has given me a life-long love of the natural world and many of the topics and activities that I plan to cover with children, will take place outside.

  • Mrs Rebecca McGettigan

    Teaching Assistant

    Hello, I’m Mrs McGettigan.
I will be one of the EYFS Teaching Assistants at Poplar Farm School. I am very much looking forward to working in this fantastic new school and helping make your child’s journey into the education system a happy and memorable experience.
I specialise in speech and language and have just completed the special educational needs diploma. I have worked in EYFS for the past 7 years and have a good sound knowledge of the foundation stage.
I believe all children can reach and exceed their potential given time and opportunities to fulfil this, in an enriched environment which helps the child explore and grow. I think that taking a child centred approach to learning is of upmost importance in order for the children to be engaged and excited about their learning, and as such, helping to fulfil their potential.
I am married with four children and we have a cat called Dele. In my spare time I love spending quality family time embracing the great outdoors and we can be regularly found on our bikes around Clumber Park. When at home I love spending time on my garden and vegetable patch.

  • Ms Becky Smith

    Teaching Assistant

I’m Becky Smith and I’m going to be one of the Teaching Assistants at Poplar Farm School in September 2018. I am very excited for the opportunity to work in this brand new school from the beginning, welcoming all the children, making them feel at home and helping them to achieve their best.
For the past 12 years I have worked in Foundation Stage and Year One as a Teaching Assistant within an Outstanding School in Sleaford. Whilst being there I have taken the children on many residential trips to Malham Cove and York. I have also co-run the School Infant Choir where we have attended many events which the staff and children have thoroughly enjoyed!
I live with my cat and love music, dancing, and I can play the piano, which I also teach in my spare time.
